About Patrick Harestad
The human body has always been a source of fascination for me. I remember as a child being so thoroughly enchanted with the ways I could move. I loved and participated in various sports; football, baseball, track, wrestling, and tennis were modes of movement as were surfing and scuba diving. At sixteen I met and studied with Swami Satchidananda, discovering the myriad practices of Yoga. I spent two years with him before heading to Humboldt, where I discovered Martial Arts and Zen. I spent fifteen years studying various martial arts including Aikido for nine years, Brazillian JuiJutsu, Muy Tai, Escrima, Jeet Kun Do, and Western Style Boxing. Yoga became my main focus in 1996 when I began practicing Ashtanga Vinyasa. I practiced Ashtanga for seven years, then met John Friend in 2002, and began a deep study of the bio mechanics of yoga movement.
